The muck : may 1995 - beginning as a 'hypothetical' band, for the recording of more than an album's worth of material... there wasn't a band, and so there would be no gigs... Danny Holland (all vocals, instruments & drum programming) . . . occasional bits and pieces by Iain Jack, Alan Bernard, Richie Cunningham, Steven Duncan, Heather Jack, ... 3 cassette eps were issued between June and December 1995, then a cassette album in early 1997... with that mission having been accomplished, the muck would then become a live band, favouring fun covers as opposed to the often complex originals.
circa - march 1997 : enter : the muck ... we'd all adopt stage names, aswell as wearing silly clothes... switch : Danny Holland 'Ben the Scullery' (vocals/guitar) enter : Richie Cunningham 'Mustard Flan Divan' (bass/backing vocals) Geoff Stevenson 'Les Miserables' (guitar/backing vocals) Brian Urquhart 'Harold C Wall' (keyboards/backing vocals) Iain Douglas (drums) . . . after a couple of rehearsals Iain was replaced by Kenny... spring : enter : Kenny Donnelly 'Bobby Ballcock' (drums/...) . . . the muck would play a total of 13 gigs, with the last being at the 3rd annual 'foodiefest', in foodieash on sat 26 June 1999... there was to have been a gig at the path tavern sometime after this, though by that time I was writing songs that were more serious, and so the muck just fizzled out sometime through the summer of 1999... the muck was named after a wee patch of grass situated at the bottom of Hillcrest avenue, which - before the little play-park was built, was known to us as simply 'the muck'... we'd kick a ball about there, or generally get up to no good !! ...
There were no studio recordings made by the live band version of the muck... demo-ography : June 95 : no ball games - ep / cassette / noballs cass 1 ... Sept 95 : the nigel timms ep - ep / cassette / noballs cass 2 ... Dec 95 : part of the furniture - ep / cassette / noballs cass 3 ... inc. 'the sofa' bandzine ... circa - early 1996 : extended play - album / CDR / epcdlp 1 ... a compilation of all 3 eps... there were only a few copies of this... more recording throughout 1996... Feb 1997 : diy - album / cassette / diditlp 1 ... inc. 'diy' booklet ... there were also a dozen or so CDRs with coloured inlays... fine ...
